ACTS had the unique opportunity to help make a young boy's dream come true. Skye, a 15 month old Golden Retriever, was placed with a Jacob Schaffner, a 9 year old boy who was recovering from kidney cancer. Skye was a sweet smart dog who would have made an awesome assistance dog. Unfortunately, Skye suffered from hip displaysia, a genetic condition that inhibits hip movement early in life and leads to arthritis and joint problems later in life. Skye underwent corrective surgery but unfortunately the condition meant that she could no longer be an assistance dog. When Robin Crocker, an ACTS trainer, was approached by Make-A-Wish in their search for a best friend for Jacob, Robin immediately thought of Skye. Both youngsters were brought together in a small ceremony on April 23, 2008 at Pawsitively Pets in Fryeburg, ME.
